The holy month of Ramadan has finally arrived! Alhamdulilah (thank God). Ramadan celebrates the month in which the first revelation of the Qur’an came to our beloved Prophet Muhammad (blessings & peace be upon him). We celebrate this month by fasting, yes, but so much more. Through self control, charity, kindness, Islamic productivity & reconnecting with the words of Allah (Qur’an).
You’re probably thinking why am I posting a recipe if we fast from dawn to dusk. Well as I mentioned we are currently practicing self control so I wanted to share what I’ll be eating during fast break from time to time and the benefits along the way. I have been and will be practicing healthier eating and portion size through this month also.
Word of warning don’t expect a day by day update, I will try to share as much as I can, but I must take advantage of my days and strengthen my spirituality, therefore I can’t post much. Forgive me.
During Ramadan the last time to eat is before dawn and we break our fast at dusk. Dawn here in the UK is a little before 3am and dusk is after 9pm, so yes very long day. SUHOOR is the meal/snack we have before dawn. I generally like to keep ALL meals during this month simple..
The first recipe I’d like to share is a very important one. One for SUHOOR however you can also enjoy it for IFTAR (break fast) but it’s benefits are much more beneficial pre fast.
This smoothie is full of vitamins & fibre from the banana giving you multiple benefits such as keeping you fuller for longer, sugar from the dates gives you energy for a day of fast, most types of nuts contain anti oxidants and healthy oils for blood, skin and hair and lastly chia seeds; the superfood, contains vitamins, protein & anti oxidants assisting your body through the day also!
Continue to read for this simple yet effective smoothie recipe and try different types of nuts if you like, why not have a go at fasting yourself? This smoothie will surely help you with that 😉
